C’mon, now! Not only have a few already touched them, but the way Rose feels about the display and use of them makes it a certainty that may others will be touching them in the very near future.
Do you know how much I’d squee if a kid in one of my classes actually said “don’t patronize me”? Man, I miss that East-o-the-Mississippi learnin’. ^_^;
…. Something tells me Rose hasn’t been ‘thinking’ much of anything at all in this comic. And no I am not saying she can’t think or the like, she just acts and dose what has more or less been ingrained into her by her life style and media.
Problem is even when she recognises it in one instance she quickly forgets it later. After all she’s pulled attention stunts before and got very negative results (like showing up at his work and causing a seen) but give it a day and she’s back on auto pilot.
Sadly my sister is much like this; she just can’t learn from mistakes, she just hasn’t the self awareness to change what it is about her that makes the problems in the first place. And for Rose it is the need for normality or at lease what she has come to perceive as normality.
What is normal for her is guys wanting to fuck her and having complete control over sex. Sex to her is probably the only thing in her life where she has felt both control and appreciation. Its not that she can’t understand Nate’s reasoning, or that she doesn’t care for his feelings, or even that sex is all she wants. It’s that her own comfort zone is being attacked from her view point and that’s not easy for anyone to deal with.
Meh. A reader does not an android make. I read Atlas Shrugged, but I’m as far from a “fan” or “randroid” as one can be. i feel like the SNL crew need to make a “Really” script about the book, but it isn’t cool and topical enough. It’d go like this:
“Really, Ann Rand? Owning a company and employing a few people makes it completely ok for you to enjoy extramarital affairs? Really?”
“Oh, and that shit about the truck driver being totally content to drive trucks for his wealthy employers? Really? Without any recourse to a union, any kind of OSHA standards, or any other controls on the company demands? Really?”
“And that part about how anyone who even hinted that perhaps it might be a nice thing to establish some limits on corporate authority, all of those folks were so stupid in your book that they needed a staff of servants to tell them when to breath? Really, Ann? Really?”
“Oh, and the part about the slut “heroine” who was an obvious Mary Sue? Nice touch, Ann. But, really?”
Yeah, I’ve read the same book. She brings up some really good points on not taking shit from people, and on not feeling guilty for enjoying something harmless, or not being guilt-tripped into keeping a freeloader loaded – but at the same time, a large part of the point of the novel is lost by making the antagonists just totally unbelievable.
If a few of the major antagonist characters – say, especially, the heroine’s brother – showed any sort of moral dilemma or realization at what they were doing, it might have had more of an impact. But IIRC, only two minor characters ever showed that potential. And of course, they died as the price of their redemption.
But, no, instead of making the antagonists reasonably intelligent or self-aware, they were all just drooling, moronic fanatics. By the end, even the heroine doesn’t see them as “people” anymore and casually commits her first murder with no moral issues.
I respect Rand’s point, as well as the work she put into the novel, but really – could her contempt for authority figures possibly shine any brighter? She might as well have made them have a feces war after their cities blew up.
…Something about Rose’s eyes is kind of freaking me out in this update. I know for a fact that they didn’t bother me while I was tearing through the archives like a panicked ferret, but for some reason they’re just too… wide open today. Makes no fucking sense, I know. Whatever.
Great comic! Just read it all the way through on Tuesday, and now eagerly awaiting more cheezy teen drama-esque misunderstandings. =D
Whats the white thing sticking out of the atlas sorry about my insane attention to detail. but that looks strange like a T-shirt tag bt on an atlas? I’m confused what is it?
The original Treading Ground comics were created between 2003 and 2011. As such, you'll find some unfortunate hallmarks of raunchy comedies of the time. These include casual misogyny, dubious sexual situations, insensitive edgelord humor and a character using the r-slur.
While these are not typically portrayed as positive, it's definitely not how I would write the comic today, and you should know that going in. That said, there's still a lot of good stuff here.
There's also some nudity. Consider the whole comic NSFW!

Well, it’s not like anyone else is going to touch them.

How many times has anyone seen this happen to a friend in real life?

I’m liking this guy more and more, I have to say. It’s almost as if you writing a mini-me.
Is it me, or is he looking at her boobs? I hope so.
Wizard
Of course he’s looking at her boobs. Pretty sure he’s the kind of guy who’s always looking at her boobs.
MrGBH
At least she knows what her problem is. That’s the toughest part. But actually doing something about it is even tougher.
Jerichow
Yeah, especially with how pissed off Nate is with the both of them now.
Weimann
Even tougher than the toughest part? 😀

West-o-the-Mississippi guy here. I use that term a lot, and I love the looks I get.
Love living in Texas but dammit if somebody could use a dictionary or two.

… I can’t tell if Rose is being serious, but if she is… There is hope for her yet…

Aya’s half-brother should make friends with his virginity, since I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
Pompous Ass
Amen, brother!
codyblues
Gotta give an A for effort.
That was last ditch at its finest.
Pompous Ass
Nah.
There at least two further pages until “Once more into the breach …” – THAT’s last ditchery!

Every time he touches himself, he touches a boob.

Oh that was good. Lightening zen!

I’m reading through this and LOLing seven years later.

In a major or a minor key?
p. observer
why so serious?
Nick
I actually really enjoyed the insight.

Thanks, even if it may be completely off from what you have in mind 😛

Insanity is defined as ‘Performing the same actions repeatedly and expecting different results.’
I believe it was Albert Einstien who quoted this.

Is Aya’s brother carrying a copy of Atlas Shrugged? I wouldn’t have pegged him as a Rand fan…
quicksilver502
well said, Lorenzo, well said.
Neil
Why?

James, the correct term is “randroid”

No, you’re right, they are a bit intense today. It’s not a character design decision, just how they turned out.
Glad you like the comic!
King
LOL thank you Nick for giving her a brain, and for giving her a shred of common sense, to realize what she did was wrong XD.
next one is going to be awesome i hope.

When I buy a single book I generally just put my receipt inside it instead of bothering with a bag. Hence the dangly paper.
The kingpin
Ahhh, skillful man! XD

Well, at least HE’S got his priorities straight, definitely.

Is Trevor really reading Ayn Rand? Run away, Rose, run away!
